Invictus

Beat and beat down
Hanged, betrayed and tarred
I’ve held on until my hands were scarred
I am free to be angry as I please
But I think I’ll let it be

The pressure increases
When there is no place to go
I followed The Captain until he lost control
I am free to be what I dreamed I'd be
No one stopping me but me

Out of the night that covers me
Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I've not winced, nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloodied But unbowed

Fathers a sailor, so he sailed away
Did my best, became him anyway
I am free to be what I'll grow to be
What is planted here in me?
May be hard, do it anyway
Born a bastard I don't have to stay
I am gonna be what I dreamed I'd be
No one stopping me but me

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms the horror of the shade
Yet the menace of the years
Found and finds me unafraid
It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am Captain of my soul

We are hard-pressed on every side Yet not crushed
We are perplexed, but not in despair
We are persecuted, but not forsaken
Struck down, but not destroyed
